I woke up this morning in my room back at IIUM, flipped the curtains and saw my beloved sister Shahidah happily spreading peanut butter on her bread whilst grinning at me. 

“Guess what? You’ve been given the position of Vice President of the Council.”

And with that, all slumber that laid heavy on my eyelids flew away like the birds on the branches outside my window. Vice-President. All my life I shielded myself from holding high posts for fear of not being able to carry out the tasks and responsibilities well, and when I least expected it, WHAM BAM here you go ma’am!

I spent the morning worrying about all the responsibilities that now sit on my shoulders, when it suddenly struck me that, hey, I did do my istikharah, and if Allah chose this for me, insyaAllah it is because He knows I can do it :)

Please make du’a for me, and may I come out of this a better person, insyaAllah. May I learn from everyone and from all the experiences I will be having, and may He keep me from abusing any authority that has been delegated to me. Ameen, ameen, ameen.

Alhamdulillah Ya Robb, only You know what is best for me.
